SolarGaps, technology applied to sustainability

SolarGaps is a startup from Ucrania which activity is focused on the development of the world’s first energy-generating solar panel window blinds, with which provide all kinds of buildings with electricity, seizing it efficiently and reducing costs.

This company, founded in 2015, participated in the incubation and internationalisation program Access2Europe to get inside the European market, and that’s when it got in touch with Peninsula.

We helped them land in Barcelona and encourage the contact with potential partners from all Europe, going to different conferences and networking events

What was your business’ situation like before participating in Access2Europe?

Before we began the program, in SolarGaps we found ourselves in a moment in which we needed to discover potential markets and search for our first clients from the B2B target.

How do you think Peninsula contributed to your enterprise's development?

Thanks to the contacts we received during our training in the Access2Europe by Peninsula, we had the opportunity to instal a pilot system at Barcelona World Trade Center.

What have been the biggest challenges or problems you have encountered?

When internationalising SolarGaps, the three trouble spots we encountered were the cultural and language barrier, the local requirements and standards, as well ass a lack of awareness ouf our product.

What is your current situation? Do you have any relevant news or milestones?

We received a €1 million grant from the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 research and innovation program and settled a competition for the first commercial buildings Pilot Project. It’s a great opportunity to cooperate on our first major B2B project.

Now we are working on the distributor’s network expansion all around Europe. We are looking for a partner who will help us to select a significant commercial building and provide installation works. At the moment we have more than 300 installations of our systems all over the world and this number increases every month.

What impact do you think your company has in the world?

Since 2015 SolarGaps has been on a mission to make energy free and accessible to everyone. We are pioneering a method of energy distribution that will power the offices, homes and cities of the future. By exploring innovative concepts and adopting new technologies, we can help move every city closer to their Net Zero goals.

If you had to give three key tips for new entrepreneurs, what would they be?

First of all, that although it’s true some technologies go ahead of their times, it gives you the time and opportunity to develop your own technologies. On the other hand, that one must take risks in order to be successful, and finally, that a business should be created to solve a problem, not only to generate profit.

How does the future look like for SolarGaps?

We are getting ready to receive a UL certification, which will allow us to sell in USA. Our plan is to decrease our cost by having more orders, develop new product in the green sector, and cooperate with local solar panels and blinds installers all over the world to increase product awareness.

Getting into new markets is a big opportunity, but it's not always easy. Are you interested?
